Find Peace of Mind during a Pandemic at Lake Mayer

Gyms, restaurants, and bars have all reopened in Georgia after closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Local residents were relieved to get back to socializing and enjoying a night out on the town after weeks of sheltering in place. Although the pandemic has made people more aware of the importance of good hygiene and eating healthy, the stress of the uncertainty caused a major strain on Georgia residents and Americans alike. Maintaining a balance of physical, mental, and social health has become more important than ever.

Lake Mayer is an oasis in the middle of a health crisis. The popular community park is a 1.5 mile loop of beautiful scenery. Residents who prefer the safety of exercising outdoors instead of inside a packed gym are able to jog and walk the area while breathing in fresh air while practicing social distancing.

Army veteran, Lakoya Crutch, prefers to visit Lake Mayer as a safer alternative to her pre-COVID-19 activities. "I don't believe that the gyms should be open now, it is too soon and I don't feel that it's safe yet", said Crutch.

How safe it is remains to be seen as the number of confirmed cases in Georgia now stands at 51,898. As the numbers continue to rise, so does the need for mental and emotional well-being. According to the American Heart Association, being out in nature can help to reduce stress and anxiety which is also important to heart health.

Lake Mayer is decorated with rows of trees and various birds and ducks that live in the park. While visitors of all ages enjoy feeding the friendly tenants, others enjoy a relaxing day of fishing in the lake. Activities like these provide a stress free environment and a way to relieve stress, especially during a health emergency.

Lake Mayer Community Park is an all inclusive, no cost option for those who want to get outside and still feel safe. "I love that I can bring my whole family here for exercise and leisure. It is a place of serenity for me", said Crutch.

Until the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has ceased, fear and panic will continue to burden a number of people. Staying healthy can help ease the physical and mental woes during this time. Visiting a place like Lake Mayer may offer some relief.
